William Shakespeare
ウィリアム・シェイクスピア（1564年～1616年）
英国の劇作家、詩人。英国ルネサンス演劇を代表する人物。
1564年4月26日、イングランド王国のストラトフォード＝アポン＝エイヴォンに生まれる。
シェイクスピアの父は皮手袋商人で市会議員、母はジェントルマンの娘であり、裕福な家庭環境に育つ。
シェイクスピアは18歳のときに26歳の女性と結婚。その後、ロンドンへ進出し、演劇の世界に身を置くようになる。
俳優として活動するかたわら脚本を書くようになり、名声を得たシェイクスピアは多くの戯曲を執筆。
その卓越した人間の心理描写により、最も優れた英文学の作家といわれる。
